Traditional summer festival in the Harz region around St. John's Day
The Johannisfest in Pansfelde is one of the classic summer village community festivals of the Harz foothills. It refers to June 24th – St. John's Day, calendrically a few days after the summer solstice – and is traditionally celebrated in many places in Central Germany. In Pansfelde, the festival will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026. The spiritual and historical anchor is the St. John's Church, one of the traditional village churches in the region. The festival grounds are in the village center with a festival tent, food stalls, and a stage area.
Pansfelde is a district of the town of Falkenstein/Harz in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt. The town is primarily known for the medieval Falkenstein Castle, one of the best-preserved castles in the Harz – and a tourist magnet. The Johannisfest, in comparison, is a very local, village affair that makes the down-to-earth nature of the Harz villages palpable, away from the tourist highlights.
As with a classic Johannisfest, the components are: a festival tent with food from the grill and the community kitchen, cold draft beer, and a cake buffet; a stage with regional bands or DJ music in the evening; children's activities with games and a small carousel; often also a traditional St. John's bonfire in the evening. The exact program structure will be announced by the organizer via the event calendar of the town of Falkenstein/Harz.
The Johannisfest is one of about a dozen village festivals in the annual program of the town of Falkenstein/Harz and serves as a meeting point for the Pansfelde village community and neighboring municipalities. Tradition and religion are combined in a typically German form: a church anchor (named after St. John), but with a public festive character. The detailed program – specific band names, start times, possible St. John's bonfire in the evening – will be announced by the organizer a few weeks before the date.

Very family-friendly village festival. Dogs on a leash are welcome.
Those who wish to combine the festival with a castle visit can explore Falkenstein Castle on the same day or weekend – about 15 km from Pansfelde.
