Three days of town festival in the Heidegger town
Meßkirch is the birthplace of the philosopher Martin Heidegger — a status the small town in the Sigmaringen district handles with charming modesty. However, the true heart of the town beats not in philosophy, but in its vibrant club life. The annual Meßkirch Town Festival is the social highlight of the summer: three days of programming, supported by Meßkirch's clubs, kindergartens, and schools, held in the historic old town around the castle and church.
The event kicks off on Saturday, July 11th, 2026, with the traditional Meßkirch Town Run organized by TV Meßkirch. The run offers several categories: Youth Run (for schoolchildren), Hobby Run (for beginners and recreational runners), Relay Run (club teams), 7.5 km Main Run (competitive run for ambitious hobby runners), and Children's Run. Simultaneously, a large flea market opens in the old town — a colorful mix of private individuals clearing out their cellars and semi-professional vendors. In the evening, the opening ceremony with a ceremonial keg tapping and stage program takes place.
Sunday, July 12th, 2026, is dedicated to families and clubs. The flea market continues all day. Local clubs, kindergartens, and schools perform on several stages — dance groups, children's choirs, music bands, sports demonstrations, and gymnastics displays. Additionally, there are concerts featuring various music genres, dance performances, and culinary offerings from Meßkirch's club scene. Anyone wanting to experience the authentic club life of Oberschwaben will find an ideal opportunity here.
Monday, July 13th, 2026, traditionally concludes with the 'Feierabendhock' (after-work gathering) of the Stadtkapelle Meßkirch. This is a classic Swabian 'Feierabendhock': after work, citizens gather, the town band plays brass music, beer steins and wine glasses are raised, and the festival winds down in a relaxed atmosphere. This Monday tradition is typical for Württemberg-Oberschwaben town festivals — a calm conclusion after the intensive weekend days.
Meßkirch is located in the Sigmaringen district, at the transition from Oberschwaben to the Swabian Jura, situated between the Danube and Lake Constance. The town, with its 8,500 inhabitants, is primarily known for three things: the magnificent Renaissance castle from the 16th century, the unique Campus Galli initiative (a medieval monastery construction site being reconstructed according to 9th-century historical plans), and as the birthplace of Martin Heidegger (1889–1976). Visitors attending the town festival should definitely plan a day trip to Campus Galli (8 km outside) — the combination of modern club culture and medieval monastery architecture is unique.
The Meßkirch Town Festival will take place in 2026 from Saturday, July 11th to Monday, July 13th, in the old town of Meßkirch. Three days of colorful activities with a varied stage program, supported by Meßkirch's clubs.
