Village summer festival for the Summer Solstice in Hörselberg-Hainich — Wartburgkreis
The Melborner Wiesenfest was launched in 2001 and has since become one of the central summer festivals in the Hörsel Valley. It takes place annually for the Summer Solstice (around June 21st) on the festival grounds in Melborn — a district of the municipality of Hörselberg-Hainich in the Wartburg district. The organizer is the Ortsgemeinschaft Melborn, a dedicated village association that hosts the festival together with the fire department, sports club, and other village associations.
The program follows the classic format of a village summer festival: Saturday evening opening with a stage program and dance music, beer bar, bratwurst stands, children's carousel, and game stalls. Sunday morning 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) with brass band music, lunch with regional specialties, children's program in the afternoon, and a cozy end to the festival in the evening.
The Summer Solstice — the longest day of the year around June 21st — is the occasion for 'Sonnwendfeste' (Solstice Festivals) in many villages in central Germany. In Melborn, it is celebrated as the central festival event of the year — symbolically marking the transition from early summer to high summer and the beginning of the summer holiday season.
The municipality of Hörselberg-Hainich (approx. 4,200 inhabitants) is located in the Wartburg district in the state of Thuringia — at the transition from the Hörsel Valley to the Hainich National Park. Melborn is one of its approximately ten districts, situated at the foot of the Großer Hörselberg. The Hainich National Park has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site 'Ancient Beech Forests' since 2011, and the Großer Hörselberg is a legendary elevation on the Eisenach–Gotha railway line.
The Melborner Wiesenfest 2026 falls on June 20th and 21st, 2026 — the days of the Summer Solstice. On the Melborn festival grounds, the Ortsgemeinschaft Melborn organizes a two-day village festival with a stage program, dance evening, beer bar, and family activities.
Saturday begins with an opening in the late afternoon, live music by a regional band in the evening, and dancing late into the night. Sunday opens with Frühschoppen and brass band music, lunch, a children's carousel and game stalls in the afternoon, and a cozy end to the festival in the evening.
