International classical concert series in the baroque Cistercian monastery
Kloster Fürstenzell was founded in 1274 as a Cistercian monastery and baroqueised in the 18th century. The parish church of Mariä Himmelfahrt, the Arkadenhof, the Portenkirche, and the Festsaal form an architectural ensemble of world-class standing, serving simultaneously as an acoustic and visual stage that attracts internationally sought-after artists. The monastery is considered "Lower Bavaria's baroque jewel" and is home to Forum Cella Principum e.V., which has curated the Meisterkonzerte for years.
The 2026 season comprises five concerts between June and December, held in different rooms of the monastery. This spatial diversity — parish church, courtyard, Portenkirche, Festsaal — creates a unique acoustic and atmospheric hue for each concert, making every evening a distinct experience.
The programme design blends classical song repertoire (Villazón), brass music (German Brass), guitar music (Aighetta Quartet), piano matinees (Prof. Lehrbaumer), and sacred festive music (Christmas cantata). This diversity distinguishes the Meisterkonzerte from purely orchestral or chamber music series — it is the hallmark of Forum Cella Principum.
Fürstenzell is located in the district of Passau, about 15 km west of the three-river city of Passau, in the Lower Bavarian Rottal region. The area is known for its monastery landscape (Vornbach, Aldersbach, Asbach), baroque architecture, and the spa town of Bad Griesbach. The Meisterkonzerte are the musical flagship of the municipality.
