TIKI TAKA — 45-Meter Giant Swing in the Bergisches Land
The biggest premiere in 2026 is TIKI TAKA — a spectacular 45-meter-high giant swing, one of the tallest transportable rides in Europe. Operator: Paulsen. The swing oscillates back and forth with ten times the force of gravity — offering views over the entire Wuppertal Zoo and the Bergisches Land region. Not for the faint-hearted, but a must-ride for adrenaline fans.
Big Bamboo — Caribbean Vibes in the Bergisches Land
Second premiere in 2026: Big Bamboo, a high-rise ride with Caribbean-themed decoration. Operator: Hempen. Bamboo aesthetics, tropical soundscape, dynamic movements — a visual and auditory attraction that Wuppertal audiences will experience in this form for the first time in 2026.
Two Fireworks Displays — Friday, June 12th, and Friday, June 19th
In 2026, the MEGA Kirmes offers not one, but two grand fireworks displays:
- Friday, June 12th: Opening fireworks in the evening
- Friday, June 19th: Second fireworks display mid-festival
Best viewing spots are around the stadium forecourt and from the banks of the Wupper river. Both start around 10:30 PM (summer twilight).
Family Day — Wednesday, June 17th
Wednesday, June 17th, 2026 is the official Family Day. On this day, many showmen offer reduced prices on rides and family packages. Tip for families with children: Wednesday afternoons are the least crowded times at the funfair, meaning children get to the carousels faster.
Wuppertal-Sonnborn — Main Location by the Wuppertal Zoo
The MEGA Kirmes takes place in the Sonnborn district, on the western edge of Wuppertal. Right next door: the Wuppertal Zoo, one of Germany's most beautiful zoo complexes set in a park landscape. For those planning a family day out, combine a morning at the zoo with an afternoon at the funfair — day tickets for both attractions are sold separately. The Schwebebahn (suspension railway) station Zoo/Stadion is just a few minutes away — the ideal way to arrive.
Ten Wuppertal Funfairs in 2026 — MEGA as the Leader
Wuppertal is a city of funfairs. With the MEGA Kirmes as the premier event, a total of ten Volksfeste will be held across the city in 2026 — from the Cronenberger Kirmes and Sonnborner Kirmes to the Barmer Kirmes. The MEGA is by far the largest and most ambitious — showmen from all over Northern Germany bring their top attractions.
