4th edition on Grifflenberg — Live music, institute olympiad and cafeteria party late into the night
The Campus Summer Festival is the annual big open-air party of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal (BUW). On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the 4th edition will take place — from 4 PM to 10 PM on the Grifflenberg Campus (Gaußstraße 20, 42119 Wuppertal). This will be followed by the MensaParty (cafeteria party) from 10 PM. The event is organized by the university and the student U-Club.
The day starts at noon: the Institute Olympiad begins at 12:00 PM — teams from various faculties compete in student challenges. Races, skill courses, quizzes, and creative tasks — a playful competition between mechanical engineering, humanities, economics, and natural sciences.
On the open-air stage, student bands, university choirs, and dance groups will present their programs. Live music in various genres — from indie-pop and hip-hop to classical crossover. The exact band lineup will be published before the festival at marketing.uni-wuppertal.de.
Around the stage, you'll find the stands of the student unions and initiatives — drinks, vegetarian and vegan food, sponsor promotions, advertising campaigns. Political groups, university communities, and student initiatives will also present themselves. The atmosphere is familiar and festival-like.
Throughout the evening, the university will honor the award recipients:
For the first time, the UniSport Campus Festival complements the Summer Festival — hands-on stands from university sports groups, taster courses, workshops, and sports competitions. Whether it's a volleyball demo, climbing training, or an open yoga class — movement becomes the third pillar of the Summer Festival.
The finale is the MensaParty starting at 10:00 PM in the university cafeteria, organized by the U-Club. DJs, fair drink prices, good vibes — the party continues into the early morning hours. Tickets available through the U-Club.
Wuppertal is an independent city in the Bergisches Land region of North Rhine-Westphalia with around 357,000 inhabitants. It is known primarily for the Schwebebahn (monorail), the Pina Bausch Tanztheater (dance theater), and the Bergische Universität with over 22,000 students. The Grifflenberg Campus is located on a hill south of the city with a wide view of the valley.
The 4th edition builds on the growing popularity of previous years. For the first time, the Summer Festival is expanded by the concurrently held UniSport Campus Festival — sports stands, taster courses, and competitions complement the music and science program.
