Mead, Medieval and Metal in the Wupper Valley — a one-day experience on the Eventground Wuppertal
Wuppertal, with 360,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the Bergisches Land region of North Rhine-Westphalia. It's a city with a distinct identity: famous for the Schwebebahn (suspension railway), the Pina Bausch Dance Theater, a vibrant creative scene between Elberfeld and Barmen — and for a concert and festival landscape that emancipates itself from the mainstream. This is precisely where the Me-T-al FESTival is at home: a one-day festival that merges mead (honey wine), medieval, and metal into a single entity.
The venue is the Eventground Wuppertal at Bundesallee 268-274 in the Elberfeld district. The location combines a weather-protected concert hall with a beer garden and an underground bar in the cellar — a setup that perfectly matches the festival's DIY aesthetic. Admission is from 3:00 PM, starting at 3:30 PM, after which the program runs all day until the next morning with a subsequent after-show party.
Five bands will take the stage in 2026:
The concept includes continuous catering: a beer garden outdoors from 3:00 PM, an underground bar in the cellar with a mead selection, and catering stands on the grounds. Mead (honey wine) has always been the accompanying drink of the medieval metal scene — the Me-T-al FESTival takes this tradition seriously and makes it the namesake element.
After the last concert, the festival seamlessly transitions into an after-show party with a dance floor — until the next morning. Those who want the complete package of concerts, mead, and party should plan to take the next day off. Admission is only granted after reaching the age of 18.
For visitors from the surrounding area: Wuppertal is well-connected by public transport — the Wuppertal Elberfeld train station is a 15-minute walk from the Eventground. For those staying longer, the city can be explored on Sunday: the Schwebebahn, the Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden (Waldfrieden Sculpture Park), the Von der Heydt Museum, or the pub scene in the Luisenviertel.
A day of mead, medieval, and metal in the Wupper Valley. The Eventground opens its halls, beer garden, and underground bar all day long and into the after-show party. The program and bands invite you to immerse yourself in the German medieval metal scene.
