Three squares, one weekend — cocktails, street food, and open-air music in Wuppertal's city center
Wuppertal — a major city in the Bergisches Land region with almost 360,000 inhabitants, an independent city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia — consists of several districts, with Elberfeld traditionally serving as the city center. With the Elberfelder Cocktail Cityfest, the city has, for several years, had a format that brings vibrant summer life to its center: one weekend, three squares, continuous programming. It is one of the few Wuppertal city center festivals that consistently activates the entire Elberfeld axis.
The festival utilizes three venues, each with its own distinct character:
This distribution allows for pleasant movement through the city: those who like a particular stage can stay there; those seeking variety can switch between the three squares.
Unlike most city festivals, the Elberfelder Cocktail Cityfest clearly positions itself through its beverage concept: cocktails at multiple bars, with professional bartender crews, offering a selection that goes far beyond the typical festival Aperol Spritz level. Alongside this, there's beer, wine, non-alcoholic options, and street food — from classic bratwurst to bowl variations, from crêpes to vegan burgers.
Music plays continuously on the three stages. Top DJs from the regional scene mix House, Funk, Disco, and Pop. Carousels for children complement the offerings — the festival is not positioned as an adults-only event but keeps family options open. Free admission, payment only at the bars and food stalls.
The festival is part of a rich Wuppertal summer program — the 'Schwebebahn' (monorail) city, which for many visitors is still identified by its unique suspension railway (opened in 1901). Those who visit the Elberfelder Cocktail Cityfest often combine their festival stroll with a ride on the monorail along the Wupper River. Wuppertal is located in the Bergisches Land — a hilly region with its own cultural identity, which also includes Solingen and Remscheid.
Three days of Cityfest in Wuppertal-Elberfeld: July 24–26, 2026. Three squares are activated — Herzogstraße as the main axis with a selection of street food and cocktails, Von-der-Heydt-Platz with the Italian-Mediterranean 'La Bella Notte' open-air party, and Kasinokreisel as the DJ stage with its own evening program.
Free admission, payment only at bars and food stalls. Families will find carousels and trampolines for the younger guests. The organizer is fh-event in cooperation with Wuppertal Stadtmarketing.
