On the Sunday of the Marktschreier-Wochenende, the shops in Lichtenfels' town center also invite you for Sunday shopping. This combines the market hustle and bustle with a relaxed shopping spree through the "Basket City" – Lichtenfels is known as the "German Basket City" for its weaving art.
City Marketing and Downtown
The organizer is the city marketing association Treffpunkt Lichtenfels e.V., which enlivens the town center with the Marktschreier-Wochenende and attracts guests from the entire Lichtenfels district and the Obermain-Jura region. Admission to the spectacle is free.
Marktschreier-Wochenende — edition 2026
From November 6 to 8, 2026, the Hamburg market criers will transform Lichtenfels' market square into a boisterous bargain stage. With hearty voices and quick-witted remarks, they hawk their wares – pasta, cheese, sausage, fish, and chocolate. On Sunday, November 8, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., the shops in the town center will also open. The organizer is the city marketing association Treffpunkt Lichtenfels e.V.; admission to the spectacle is free.

Getting Here
Lichtenfels is located in the Lichtenfels district of Upper Franconia. By train at the Lichtenfels ICE hub (lines Nuremberg–Erfurt and Bamberg–Saalfeld), from there a few minutes' walk to the market square. By car via the A73 (exit Lichtenfels-Nord/Süd).
