Marktplatzfest Harrislee

Community Festival on the German-Danish Border

The Marktplatzfest Harrislee has been the central community festival of the Harrislee municipality since the 1990s. It is held on the Marktplatz (market square) in the town center – a central square that is traffic-calmed for the event and equipped with a stage, stalls, and a play area. Harrislee itself belongs to the district of Schleswig-Flensburg and borders directly on the Danish border – Padborg is just a stone's throw away.

Program and Stage

The program follows a proven structure:

• Stage Program: Bands, singers, dance groups, and local clubs perform throughout the afternoon and evening
• Children's Play Area: Bouncy castles, craft stations, face painting, and games for the little ones (until 6 PM)
• Stalls and Booths from clubs, businesses, and restaurateurs from Harrislee
• Food and Drinks with North German and Danish specialties
• Evening Program with live music until 11 PM

Tradition Since 1993

The Marktplatzfest was first held in 1993 and has been a regular fixture in the summer event calendar ever since. The 34th edition will be celebrated in 2026 – a testament to the concept's longevity. The event is one of the municipality's flagship events and underscores Harrislee's character as a vibrant border town with a strong club structure.

Region: Schleswig-Flensburg District

Harrislee, with around 11,000 inhabitants, is the northernmost municipality in Schleswig-Holstein and, at the same time, the northernmost one with the Danish border as its municipal boundary. Its location on the outskirts of the city of Flensburg makes Harrislee a mix of a residential suburb and an independent municipality with a distinct identity. The Marktplatzfest is an expression of this identity.
