Largest folk festival in the Vorderhunsrück with over 400 traders, amusement rides, and a colourful supporting programme
The Beller Markt is one of the largest and oldest market fairs in western Germany and by far the most important folk festival (Volksfest) in the Vorderhunsrück region. Every year on the second-to-last Wednesday in July, the Hunsrückhöhenstraße B 327 around the small municipality of Bell transforms into a huge festival ground, bustling with over 400 traders and an extensive amusement park. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come from the Hunsrück, Eifel, Mosel, and the entire Middle Rhine region for the traditional farmers' market.
Anyone wishing to experience authentic Hunsrück market life will find a unique mix of a general market, annual fair, livestock and farmers' market, and folk festival. From early morning until late evening, the activity pulses along the closed-off federal highway – a spectacle that has become rare in this form in Germany.
The Beller Markt dates back to a privilege granted in the 16th century and has established itself over the centuries as the central trading and festival day of the Vorderhunsrück. Originally, it was a livestock and farmers' market where surrounding villages traded cattle, pigs, horses, tools, and seeds. Today, the mix is diverse: clothing, household goods, tools, leather goods, shoes, toys, sweets, regional food products, direct marketers, and handicrafts line the street.
In a single day, over 400 market traders set up their stalls on the B 327, which is converted into a market street, and in Bell's side streets. The market stretches for several kilometres and is divided into thematic areas. It's often said that you can buy everything you need for your household or farm here all year round.
Alongside the general market, showmen set up a complete amusement park: Ferris wheel, chain carousel, dodgems, haunted house, shooting galleries, sweet stalls, bratwurst and chip stands. For children, there are special rides, bouncy castles, and sweet stands. Stages provide musical entertainment, and catering tents with draft beer, wine, and hearty food round off the offerings.
The small municipality of Bell in the Hunsrück, not to be confused with the similarly named village in the Eifel, is conveniently located on the Hunsrückhöhenstraße B 327, which runs from Koblenz to Idar-Oberstein through the Hunsrück highlands. With around 1,100 inhabitants, Bell is regionally known for its record-breaking market. On normal days, it's a quiet Hunsrück village – on market day, it transforms into the region's centre.
The Beller Markt 2026 will take place, as every year, on the second-to-last Wednesday in July – the date for 2026 is Wednesday, July 22nd. Over 400 market traders and a complete amusement park will line the closed-off B 327. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected. Free admission, food and drinks available at stalls.
The 2026 edition continues the centuries-old tradition of the Beller Markt. The detailed stage programme, special catering, and traffic regulations will be updated by the organiser (municipality of Bell / Beller Marktverein) on bellermarkt.de a few weeks before the event.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
