Four Days of Open Air in the Bodenseekreis

Markdorf Open Air has been the biggest open-air event in the Bodenseekreis district for years. From June 17th to 20th, 2026, Markdorf's historic market square will become a concert arena with a stage, lighting, and sound system. The capacity of around 3,500 visitors per concert creates a special intimacy that sets the festival apart from large mega-festivals — stars up close, but with professional standards.

Line-up 2026 — Four Concerts for Four Tastes

The opening act on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, will be Sportfreunde Stiller with their German indie-pop classics — starting at 7 PM. On Thursday, June 18th, 2026, Capital Bra will take the stage with German trap and hip-hop (8 PM). Friday, June 19th, 2026: The BossHoss with their mix of country, rock, and pop (8 PM). Saturday, June 20th, 2026: During the day, the children's festival format Heavysaurus (hard rock for families, 1 PM), and in the evening, SWR1 Pop & Poesie (8 PM) — a reading and music format featuring German pop classics and literary texts.

Markdorf Market Square as a Historic Stage

Markdorf's market square is one of the most beautiful in Upper Swabia. With its 16th-century historic town hall, half-timbered houses, and the old city gate, it forms a unique backdrop for open-air concerts. The acoustics of the enclosed square are excellent — the stone walls reflect the sound, creating an extraordinary listening experience.

Organizer Kulturteam Markdorf

Behind the open-air event is Kulturteam Markdorf — an initiative of the city of Markdorf and local sponsors that has been shaping the cultural life of the Bodenseekreis district for years. The programming follows the idea of catering to a broad spectrum of tastes annually — from indie and hip-hop to country and family formats. The open-air event regularly sells out in the summer.

Markdorf — Between Lake Constance and the Swabian Jura

Markdorf, a town of around 14,000 inhabitants in the Bodenseekreis district, is located between Friedrichshafen and Meersburg. Its location between Lake Constance, apple orchards, and the Swabian Jura makes Markdorf an ideal destination for a festival weekend — with swimming opportunities at the lake, hikes into the hinterland, and tourist infrastructure.
