Summer open-air festival on the Marienberg in Brandenburg an der Havel
The Marienberg is located in the middle of Brandenburg an der Havel – one of the three major Havel river locations in the state of Brandenburg (alongside Potsdam and Rathenow). On the hill, an elevation with a view over the city, a summer open-air event has been established since 2019, which has become the flagship of the city's cultural summer.
The Marienberg Open Air is not a single day, but a multi-week series. Over several weeks, various event formats are spread across the festival stage on the Marienberg:
The organizer of the festival is the Brandenburger Theater, which also leads the Brandenburger Symphoniker as its in-house orchestra. This allows the festival to draw on professional infrastructure and its own orchestra – an advantage that gives the Marienberg Open Air a different profile than festivals organized solely by promoters.
Brandenburg an der Havel is the independent city that gives the federal state its name. With around 72,000 inhabitants, it lies between Potsdam and Magdeburg, on the Havel river and several lakes. The Marienberg Open Air showcases a city that confidently presents itself culturally – not in the shadow of Potsdam, but with its own profile. It is the most important summer event in the district of Brandenburg an der Havel.
