The biggest Volksfest (popular festival) in the Havel city — three days of music, dragon boats, and summer vibes
When stages are set up at Jahrtausendbrücke, Salzhofufer, and Heineufer in June, everyone in West Brandenburg knows: it's Havelfest. For over six decades, the festival has filled the historic old town of Brandenburg an der Havel with music, dance, sports, and festivities. In 2026, the organizers will celebrate the 61st edition — and thus one of the oldest and most visited city festivals in all of Brandenburg.
The Havelfest is spread across four stages along the Havel: the Stadtwerke stage at Heinrich-Heine-Ufer, the festival grounds at Salzhofufer, a stage at the harbor, and the performance area at Jahrtausendbrücke. Each location has its own profile — from pop and Schlager (popular music) to classical and DJ sets. Over the weekend, more than 100,000 visitors are expected from all over Brandenburg, Berlin, and Saxony-Anhalt.
In addition to the concerts, the Havelfest includes typical Volksfest elements:
The Friday evening concert ticket — a tradition unique in Brandenburg — also serves as a VBBr travel pass for round trips with the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association. This makes the festival environmentally sensible too.
Brandenburg an der Havel is the namesake of the entire federal state — the March of Brandenburg originated here in the Middle Ages around the cathedral island. Today, the city with its approximately 70,000 inhabitants is an independent city in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district with a distinct waterside location. Three city islands, kilometers of Havel riverbanks, Lake Beetz, and Lake Plauer surround the old town. The Havelfest utilizes this waterside location like no other festival in Brandenburg.
The Havelfest 2026 opens on Friday, June 19, and runs until Sunday, June 21, 2026. The organizer is ShowService Brandenburg in cooperation with the city of Brandenburg an der Havel.
On the main stage at Heinrich-Heine-Ufer (Stadtwerke stage), the double concert Die Prinzen & No Angels will be held on Friday evening — a combination of the Leipzig a cappella pop legend and the German girl group, which has been touring halls again since its comeback. Tickets from €25 (StWB customers) or €50 regular, also valid as a VBBr travel pass.
On Saturday, there will be dragon boat races on the Havel, a mascot parade through the old town, and the traditional duck race with thousands of yellow plastic ducks. Sunday concludes the festival weekend with the classical closing concert by the Brandenburger Symphoniker.
Detailed program with times will be available at havelfest.info/programm.
By train RE1 or ICE to Brandenburg an der Havel Hbf, from there a 10-minute walk to the old town. By car via the A2 (Berlin–Hanover) exit Brandenburg an der Havel. Parking in the city is scarce during the festival — public transport recommended.
Concert Die Prinzen/No Angels (Stadtwerke stage, June 19): €50 regular, €25 for StWB customers. Advance sale via eventim.de. Ticket also serves as a VBBr travel pass. The Volksfest area, stages, and dragon boat races are freely accessible.
Dragon boat races take place on Saturday morning on the Havel — best view from Heineufer. For those who want to experience the whole festival: plan a three-day trip, preferably with a hotel booking in the old town (book well in advance).
