Märchenbazar Christmas Market Munich
Nostalgic circus tent Christmas market in Olympiapark
2026
About Märchenbazar Munich
Märchenbazar Munich — edition 2026
In 2026, the Märchenbazar will once again transform the Tollwood summer festival grounds into a magical winter world. The regular market will run for over five weeks with a daily changing music program, fixed children's activities, and the typical mix of crafts, culinary delights, and staging.
The New Year's Eve party on December 31st is designed as a separate event starting at 10 PM: DJ sets, live acts, and a midnight view of the Munich fireworks. The Märchenbazar has established itself as an alternative Christmas market in Munich – unlike the traditional Christkindlmärkte, it emphasizes atmosphere, curated exhibitors, and a continuous family program.

Tip
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city center, this is the place to be. It's quietest on weekday afternoons or shortly after opening.
A Circus World in Olympiapark
When the Tollwood Festival transforms Olympiapark Süd into a festival city in the summer, the tents of the Märchenbazar take over the area from late autumn, creating one of Munich's most atmospheric Christmas markets. Unlike the traditional Christkindlmarkt at Marienplatz, the focus here is not on the historic cityscape, but on a fantastically staged fairytale world – a deliberately nostalgic production with circus tents, fairground structures, warm light, and curious details.
Stalls with Character
Around 40 selected stalls present a range of goods rarely found at standard Christmas markets: leather goods, woven ponchos, handmade jewelry, glass, woodwork, exotic spices, teas, and hot drinks from around the world. The organizers deliberately curate the exhibitors – no mass-produced goods, lots of small crafts, an international mix with an emphasis on sustainable and individual products.
Free Children's Program
An important part of the Märchenbazar is the daily children's program – free and lovingly designed: storytelling sessions where narrators retell the classics, candle dipping with beeswax, puppet shows, and creative craft activities that change regularly. For many Munich families, the Märchenbazar has become a firm Advent tradition.
Live Music in Tents
Every day, different musicians perform in the tents – from acoustic singer-songwriters and Eastern European Klezmer sounds to classic Christmas carols in folk arrangements. The atmosphere remains warm and intimate, like under a protective roof in a big city. Cabinets of curiosities, magicians, and walking acts complement the production.
New Year's Eve Under Circus Tents
A tradition in itself is the New Year's Eve party on December 31st, which begins at 10 PM. The tents become a dance floor, DJs and live acts play, mulled wine and international specialties keep you warm, and at midnight, you toast under the Munich sky. The adjacent Olympiapark area offers a particularly good view of the city's fireworks.
