Volksfest directly on the Main

The Mainfest Rüsselsheim is one of the best-known spring Volksfeste (funfairs) in the Rhine-Main region. Over May 1st and the following weekend, the Landungsplatz directly on the Main riverbank transforms into a fairground with 48 rides and games. The event is organized by the city of Rüsselsheim, with showmen coming from all over the Rhine-Main area.

New Attractions 2026

Three attractions are new at the Landungsplatz in 2026:

• The „Hip Hop Fly“ swing with laser, light, fire, and fog effects – a new highlight for the evenings.
• The „Action House“, an obstacle and action course for teenagers and adults.
• The „Cinema Multi D“, an accessible multi-D cinema experience for the whole family.

Classics on the Square

Alongside the new attractions, the classics are present: the Musikexpress Himalaya, the Ferris wheel „König's Radl“ (up to 18 meters high), carousels for children, skill games, fishing stalls, sweet stalls, and food vendors. The Mainfest covers the classic Volksfest repertoire completely – with the added bonus of an immediate riverbank panorama.

Family Day on Tuesday

On Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, it's Family Day with reduced prices on all rides – the traditional gift from the showmen to the city to conclude the event. The Sunday service for showmen at the bumper cars at 10 am is also a peculiarity that the Mainfest shares with other large German Volksfeste.

Opel City on the Main

Rüsselsheim is known as Opel City – the automobile group's largest plant is located in the city center. For decades, the Mainfest has been a meeting point for the city's society: Opel employees, schoolchildren, families from Mainz and Frankfurt arriving by S-Bahn. Its direct location on the Main, opposite the historic fortress grounds and with a view of the Rüsselsheim Fortress, offers the most picturesque Volksfest backdrop in Southern Hesse.
