The Rüsselsheimer Kerb — three locations, one festival
The Rüsselsheimer Kerb is the major summer folk festival of the Opel city on the Main — and it uses not one, but three connected festival areas in the city center:
- Landungsplatz on the Main riverbank: the classic amusement park with rides, a Ferris wheel, showman attractions — right by the water, with a view of the Main bridge.
- Marktplatz: the "Kerbetreff" with a stage program and five club sales booths, each run by Rüsselsheim clubs — one of the city's deliberate participation concepts.
- Mainstraße: the Kerbemeile, which connects the two locations — with food stalls, small stages, and additional clubs.
Commemoration of Town Privileges
Rüsselsheim was granted city status in the Middle Ages — and it is precisely this granting of town privileges that is the historical reason for the Kerb. It is therefore not (like many other Hessian Kerben) a church consecration festival, but a purely civic celebration, held in late summer.
Clubs as the Core
A special feature: The five sales booths at the Kerbetreff are managed by Rüsselsheim clubs. You can choose between the specialty offers Flammkuchen and waffles, cocktails and soft drinks, beer and Weinschorle, pretzels and Spundekäs, and Apfelwein. The city provides the booths, electricity, water, tables, and chairs — the clubs create the atmosphere and collect the proceeds for their club work. Registration for 2026 is open until May 22.
Live Music Every Evening
Live music is performed on the Marktplatz stage throughout the entire festival weekend: rock cover bands, pop, Schlager, regional newcomers. There is a program here every evening — free of charge and without a wristband.
Rüsselsheim and the Region
Rüsselsheim am Main is located in the Groß-Gerau district, between Frankfurt and Mainz, on the Main river. The city is primarily known for Opel — the main plant shapes the cityscape — and for the Rüsselsheim riverfront with the Rüsselsheim Fortress. The Kerb utilizes this exact riverside location; the Landungsplatz was historically the city's harbor.
