Volksfest in the Heart of the Hallertau
The Mainburg Hop Festival is the traditional summer Volksfest (traditional folk festival) of the town of Mainburg, located in the heart of the Hallertau – the world's largest contiguous hop-growing region. Mainburg is situated in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim in the district of Lower Bavaria. The four-day festival on the festival grounds is one of the region's most important events.
Hops as Identity
As the name suggests, the festival is closely linked to hops and beer. The Hallertau shapes the region culturally and economically; the Hop Festival celebrates this identity with its own beer tent, regional beers, and the crowning of the Hallertau Beer Queen, who acts as an ambassador for the hop region.
Program and Highlights
The festival begins on Friday evening with the ceremonial march of clubs and guests of honor from the market square to the festival tent. Over the four days, guests can expect:
- Beer tent with live music and festival atmosphere
- Crowning of the Hallertau Beer Queen
- Cherry market with regional products
- Vintage car meet
- Rides and funfair for the whole family
- Sunday with open shops in Mainburg, City Museum open with free admission
Sociability and Tradition
