Anniversary Run along Bayreuth's Main Auen
Since its founding in 2017, the Mainauenlauf has been one of the most beautiful public runs in Upper Franconia. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the running event celebrates its 10th edition – an anniversary run organized by MaliCrew e.V., based in Bayreuth. The course leads through the grounds of the former State Garden Show (now Wilhelminenaue) on the Roter Main, one of the most attractive recreational areas in the Wagner city in the Bayreuth district, Bavaria.
Seven Competitions for Every Distance
The offering covers the entire spectrum from children's runs to the half marathon. The competitions start staggered: Kids' Run 500m at 9:30 AM, Youth Run 1km at 9:45 AM, 5km Hobby Run at 10:10 AM, 5km Nordic Walking at 10:15 AM, Half Marathon 21.1km at 10:20 AM, 4x5km Relay at 10:25 AM, 10km Main Run at 11:20 AM. The undulating course involves approximately 85 meters of elevation gain per lap – mostly asphalted, with loops through the floodplain and along the Main river.
MaliCrew — Club for Bayreuth Running Sports
The organizer is MaliCrew e.V., based at Sankt-Wolfgang-Straße in Bayreuth. Since the first edition in 2017, the club has specialized in establishing the Mainauenlauf as a family-friendly public run and also offering ambitious half-marathon runners an attractive course with well-plannable logistics. The 2026 anniversary edition builds on ten years of experience – from originally a few hundred participants, the Mainauenlauf has grown into a fixed date in the Franconian running calendar.
Bayreuth — Wagner City and Festival Venue
With around 75,000 inhabitants, Bayreuth is the most important city in Upper Franconia and is world-renowned, primarily for the Richard Wagner Festival. The Wilhelminenaue with the Roter Main was created in 2016 for the State Garden Show and is now a recreational area that provides Bayreuth with a green lung between the city center and its districts. The Mainauenlauf uses this area as its stage, combining athletic experience with the charm of the Bayreuth landscape.
