Neighbourhood Festival with Cult Status

Over the past decades, the Maikäferfest Oberkassel has developed into one of the most important neighbourhood festivals in Bonn's Beuel district. The Werbegemeinschaft Oberkassel e.V. (WOK), with its over 70 members from retail, gastronomy, and services, organises the festival together with local clubs, initiatives, and volunteers. Thousands of visitors from Oberkassel itself, from neighbouring districts, and from Bonn's city centre make their way to Königswinterer Straße — which becomes a festival mile for the entire weekend.

The 2026 festival runs on Saturday, May 30, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM as a one-day family festival. The main musical performances are spread throughout the afternoon and evening — until approximately 10:00 PM.

Where: Königswinterer Straße and Market Square

Königswinterer Straße is Oberkassel's central shopping street — a traditional neighbourhood street with long-established shops, cafés, and residential buildings. It will be closed for the Maikäferfest and transformed into a festival mile with stalls, stages, and activities. The main stage and musical centre is the Oberkassel Market Square, where the live bands will play.

Programme and Live Music 2026

The 2026 musical programme showcases the diversity of neighbourhood culture:

• 1:00 PM — Festival begins on Königswinterer Straße and at the Market Square
• 3:00 PM — Beat Rockets: Rock and Pop on the main stage
• 4:00 PM — Samba Group TuS Oberkassel: Latin American rhythms
• 4:30 PM — Band Room Service: Cover classics
• 6:00 PM — De Anjeschwemmte: Rhenish dialect music and atmosphere
• 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM — Stranger Songs 80s: 80s hits to round off the evening

In addition, stalls along Königswinterer Straße will offer food, drinks, crafts, and club activities.

Werbegemeinschaft Oberkassel (WOK) — Organiser

The WOK is the interest group of Oberkassel's business people — retail, gastronomy, service providers. Beyond the Maikäferfest, it organises other neighbourhood events such as Advent markets, special promotions, and joint marketing activities. The Maikäferfest is one of the highlights of the WOK's annual calendar — a clear statement that even an urban district like Oberkassel cultivates a vibrant club and business life.

Oberkassel — District on the Rhine

Oberkassel is located on the right bank of the Rhine in Bonn's Beuel district. About a 10-minute Stadtbahn ride from Bonn's city centre. The district has a distinct character: village-like structures with big-city connections, a Rhine promenade with views of the Siebengebirge on the other side of the river, and a lively Königswinterer Straße as its shopping street. Visitors to the Maikäferfest can combine the day with a walk along the Rhine promenade.

Family Festival for All Generations

The Maikäferfest is explicitly designed as a colourful family festival. Children's activities, hands-on stalls from clubs, culinary diversity — from bratwurst to international specialities — and a musical programme that appeals to both children and older generations. While the 80s band caters to adults in the evening, the afternoon acts (Samba, Rock Pop) are family-friendly.

Bonn-Beuel — The Other Bonn

The Beuel district on the right bank of the Rhine has a different character than the left-bank Bonn city centre: fewer federal authorities, more residential areas, stronger neighbourhood identities. Oberkassel, Beuel-Mitte, Pützchen, Holzlar — each of these districts has its own annual festival. The Maikäferfest is the largest and oldest in the region — driven by the persistent commitment of the WOK and its partners.
