Lütjenburg — historic small town in Plön district

Lütjenburg is a small town in the Plön district (state of Schleswig-Holstein), nestled between the Baltic Sea coast and Holstein Switzerland. With around 5,500 inhabitants, Lütjenburg is manageable but architecturally distinctive: historic market square, medieval town layout, a tower hill castle as a landmark, and a traditional weekly market. The town sees itself as the gateway to Probstei and Hohwacht Bay.

Three days of festival mile on the market square

The Lütjenburg Town Festival is the central civic event of the year. From Friday, July 10th, to Sunday, July 12th, 2026, the historic market square will be transformed into a festival mile with:

• Two stages with continuous programming of live music, cover bands, solo artists, DJ sets, dance performances, and club appearances
• Market and food stalls from local gastronomy and craftspeople
• Family and children's programme with a carousel, face painting, and hands-on activities
• Festival operations daily from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM

Town festival with municipal sponsorship

The organizers are the Town of Lütjenburg and the local event organizer JC-Events. The municipal sponsorship ensures broad participation from the town's society — clubs, craftspeople, schools, and volunteer initiatives shape the programme. Admission is free.

Embedded in the Lütjenburg Festival Year

The town festival is not the only major event of the year in Lütjenburg: the town also hosts the Niederstraßenfest, medieval events around the tower hill castle (Mittelalterey at Pentecost, Advent market in December), and the calendars of the Lütjenburger Liedertafel. However, the town festival is the most widely attended event — the citizens of Lütjenburg meet here without any thematic filter.
