The Artist Duo Gert & Uwe Tobias
Brothers Gert and Uwe Tobias were born in 1973 in Brașov (Kronstadt), Transylvania, Romania, and are among the most important representatives of a younger generation of artists with Eastern European roots. They gained international recognition for a unique technique of large-format colour woodcuts: instead of carving the image into the printing block, they saw the wooden panel into individual pieces and reassemble them to create each motif.

The work of the Tobias brothers combines folkloristic motifs from their Transylvanian heritage with modern visual language, typography, and pop elements — a distinct position in contemporary art.
