About Long Night of Music

The Long Night of Music is a festival for contemporary music that takes place once a year in Bremen's city center. On a Saturday evening, the partners of klangpol — the New Music Network Northwest — present numerous short concerts, installations, and performances with their ensembles and artists. Eight venues along the cultural mile between Domsheide and Ostertor-Viertel open their doors, including the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus, Villa Ichon, Wilhelm Wagenfeld Haus, St. Petri Cathedral, and the Hochschule für Künste. Each concert lasts only about 20 minutes, allowing you to wander freely and choose between composed music, improvisation, installations, and music theater. Admission to all concerts is free.

New Music Throughout the City Center

For four hours, the Long Night of Music transforms Bremen's city into a soundscape for contemporary music. Organized by the klangpol network, an association of around 20 partners for New Music in the Northwest, the aim is to introduce the audience to new tones and sounds. Professionals, semi-professionals, and amateurs perform together.

Eight Venues on the Cultural Mile

Eight locations along the cultural mile between Domsheide and Ostertor are used: the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus as the starting venue, Villa Ichon, Wilhelm Wagenfeld Haus, Willehad-Saal, Galerie Mitte, the concert hall of the Hochschule für Künste, St. Petri Cathedral, and the Bremer Presse-Club. Since all locations are within walking distance, you can move freely between them.

Short Concerts and World Premieres

Each concert lasts only about 20 minutes. The program includes composed and improvised music, installations, performances, and music theater — both indoors and outdoors. Highlights include world premieres, such as Erwin Koch-Raphael's Composition No. 92 (le fou au bord de la mer) in the Cathedral. You decide spontaneously where to go.

Hanseatic Cultural Mile

Bremen's cultural mile between the Market Square and the Viertel has always been densely packed with museums, halls, and churches. The Long Night of Music utilizes precisely this Hanseatic density: on one evening, the city's heritage becomes a stage for today's music. A Long Night of Music also takes place in Oldenburg concurrently.
