73rd edition of the Munich North Ring Volksfest in Unterschleißheim
The Lohhofer Volksfest has been running for over seven decades and is one of the oldest folk festivals in the north of Munich. Lohhof is a district of Unterschleißheim and gives the festival its historic name. Today marks the 73rd edition — an indicator of the unbroken popularity of this folk festival, which has retained its character as a district festival with an Upper Bavarian Wiesn atmosphere to this day.
The venue is the festival grounds at Münchner Ring, corner of Stadionstraße — easily accessible via the S-Bahn line S1 (Lohhof stop) and only a few kilometers from the Allianz Arena. The festival tent can accommodate several thousand visitors; around 40 showman businesses with carousels, a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and all the classic folk festival rides are set up around it. The slogan "colorful, cozy, traditional" aptly describes the atmosphere.
The highlight is the grand parade on the first Saturday: Around 1,200 participants from clubs, traditional costume groups, music bands, and showman wagons march from the town hall square to the festival grounds. The procession is accompanied by marching music, horse-drawn carriages, and festively decorated brewery wagons and is one of the largest parades in Munich's commuter belt. In addition, there is a senior and family afternoon with reduced prices and the well-known Upper Bavarian musical fireworks on Thursday evening.
Unterschleißheim is a town with around 30,000 inhabitants in the district of Munich, directly north of the state capital. Geographically, the town belongs to the Upper Bavarian Alpine foothills, culturally to Munich. Over the years, the Lohhofer Volksfest has evolved from a purely local district festival into a nationally known folk festival, without losing its local character — unlike the commercialized major events in the city center.
From Friday, May 22, to Sunday, May 31, 2026, the 73rd edition of the Lohhofer Volksfest will take place on the festival grounds at Münchner Ring / Stadionstraße. The festival will be opened on Friday at 6 PM by the mayor with the traditional beer tapping in the festival tent.
