Ten days of Volksfest in the Stadtpark with a 40-meter Ferris wheel and over 200 showman businesses — July 10th to 19th, 2026, the 130th anniversary edition
Limbach-Oberfrohna in the Saxon district of Zwickau has been hosting its Stadtparkfest since the 19th century — the largest and most traditional Volksfest in this region between Chemnitz and Zwickau. In 2026, the 130th anniversary edition runs from Friday, July 10th, to Sunday, July 19th — ten days of programming, running daily. Organizing committee: City of Limbach-Oberfrohna and the Mittelsächsischer Schaustellerverband (Central Saxon Showman Association), which brings the largest rides in Central Saxony to Limbach.
The Stadtpark transforms into a fairground of superlatives. The landmark for 2026: a 40-meter Ferris wheel offering views over Limbach-Oberfrohna and the forests of the Erzgebirge foothills. Adrenaline fans will find the Breakdancer, the G-Force, the Twister, the Super-8-Loop (roller coaster with eight loops), and several Swing Carousels. For children, there are classic carousels, a children's roller coaster, bouncy castles, a haunted house with family-friendly spooky elements, and several showman stalls with sweets and toys.
With over 200 showman businesses, vendors, and caterers, the Stadtparkfest is one of the largest Volksfests in Central Saxony. Food stalls offer bratwurst, fries, crêpes, candied almonds, gingerbread hearts, cotton candy, and Saxon specialties like Quarkkeulchen (quark fritters). Drink stands offer beer (Bautzner, Wernesgrüner, Radeberger), lemonades, and cocktails. At the wine and cocktail stands, showman tradition mixes with modern trends.
The main stage in the Stadtpark features a daily changing program: live music with cover bands from Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, acrobatic shows, family entertainment, talent competitions, dance groups, and DJ sets on several evenings. Several firework displays over the festival grounds are the visual highlights of the week — usually on the first and last weekends, and on a Wednesday or Thursday evening.
The town, with around 23,000 inhabitants, lies on the edge of the Erzgebirge foothills, nestled in a wooded landscape. The Stadtparkfest here is more than just a fairground — it's a cross-generational community festival: grandparents take their grandchildren to the same stalls they visited as children, local clubs perform with dance groups and music bands, and all town life pauses for ten days in favor of the festival.
The 130th edition of the Limbacher Stadtparkfest runs from July 10th to 19th, 2026 — ten days of continuous fairground fun in Limbach-Oberfrohna's Stadtpark. Organizing committee: City of Limbach-Oberfrohna and Mittelsächsischer Schaustellerverband. With its 130th edition, the festival celebrates its long tradition dating back to the 19th century.
