About Stadtadvent Burgstädt

The Burgstädter Stadtadvent is the traditional Christmas market of the small town of Burgstädt in Mittelsachsen and takes place annually on the second Advent weekend on the Market Square. Christmassy decorated stalls offer Advent decorations, regional gift ideas, bratwurst, mulled wine, and culinary specialties. Following the Advent season, the «Winterglühen in Burgstädt» (Winter Glow in Burgstädt) takes place at the open-air stage in Hainstraße on December 27th/28th, 2026 — an unusual extension of the Christmas season into the late year. 27th Burgstädter Stadtadvent December 12th–13th, 2026

In 2026, Burgstädt celebrates the 27th edition of its Stadtadvent. As in previous years, the program focuses on the Market Square in the historic city center: two stages, stalls with Ore Mountains and Mittelsachsen handicrafts, bratwurst and mulled wine stalls, a children's craft house, and the traditional Santa Claus house.

Program highlights from previous years — the festive lighting of the large pyramid, the citizens' parade, theater performances, concerts, and readings — will also be featured in the 2026 program. A detailed program will be published shortly before the date on the Burgstädt town website.

Christmas Town in Western Mittelsachsen

Burgstädt, with just under 11,000 inhabitants, is located in the Mittelsachsen district, about 25 kilometers west of Chemnitz. While the larger Christmas markets of Dresden, Chemnitz, and Leipzig dominate the media landscape, the Burgstädter Stadtadvent has established itself as a charming, family-friendly small-town Christmas market, securing a firm place in the regional Advent calendar. The event is organized by the town of Burgstädt in cooperation with the Burgstädt Trade and Commerce Association e.V.

Program — Family, Children, Stage

The Stadtadvent is explicitly designed as a family festival. Two stages provide entertainment — choirs, brass bands, school choirs, dance groups. A children's craft house offers creative hands-on activities, a Santa Claus house with gift handover, plus fairy tale hours and small surprises. Program items from previous years — the traditional pyramid lighting ceremonies, festive parades, concerts, theater performances, readings — will also be part of the program again in 2026.

Market Stalls and Culinary Offerings

Around the Market Square, stalls line up with regional handicrafts: Ore Mountains wood art (incense smokers, pyramids, nutcrackers), Mittelsachsen weaving, honey, candles, pottery. Culinary delights: bratwurst, stollen, mulled wine, children's punch, crêpes, Pulsnitz gingerbread, regional beers, and liqueurs.

Winterglühen — The Advent Extension

A special feature of the Burgstädt Advent calendar is the «Winterglühen» (Winter Glow) on December 27th and 28th, 2026, at the open-air stage in Hainstraße — a two-day program between Christmas and New Year's Eve that extends the festive mood into the «quiet week» after the holidays. Mulled wine, campfires, music, a calm atmosphere — a feel-good version of the classic Christmas market.
