LEVspielt³ — The Big City Children's Festival with Three Locations
If you're looking for a really good idea for a summer Sunday with your children, head to Leverkusen on August 23, 2026. The children's festival LEVspielt³ (pronounced "LEV plays cubed") will take place from 11 am to 5 pm at three different locations simultaneously — each with its own site-specific program. The concept is brilliant: Instead of one large, central event with overcrowded activity stations, the City of Leverkusen deliberately distributes the program across three spatially distinct natural sites, each with a different character.
Location 1 — Neuland-Park on the Rhine Riverbank
In Neuland-Park (Nobelstraße 91, Wiesdorf) — Leverkusen's central open-air park on the Rhine riverbank — there will be a discovery trail program and a T-shirt workshop where children can design their own festival shirt. In addition, there will be hands-on activity stations, dance events, and small stage performances. Neuland-Park, as the most urban of the three festival areas, is ideal for families from the city center of Wiesdorf or from the right-bank area of Cologne.
Location 2 — NaturGut Ophoven
NaturGut Ophoven (Talstraße 4) is an extracurricular educational center focused on environmental education. On LEVspielt³ days, a distinct nature program will take place here: guided tours, a construction workshop, nature workshops, animal observations, and hands-on stations related to ecology and sustainability. For families who want to sensitize their children to nature topics, Ophoven is the right choice.
Location 3 — Wildpark Reuschenberg
The Wildpark Reuschenberg offers the most animal-centric program: ponies to pet and ride, animal feeding (wild boar, deer, sheep), the forest stage with live music (local children's bands, children's singer-songwriters), and campfire stories. This rural atmosphere — the wildlife park is located in a natural forest area — clearly contrasts with the urban Neuland-Park and the educational atmosphere of Ophoven.
Three Locations — One Message
The three-location concept has a reason: It not only distributes visitor crowds (a single location would simply be overcrowded on a nice summer Sunday) but also makes different natural areas of Leverkusen visible. Families who only know their neighborhood park will discover other parts of the city through LEVspielt³. A clever move in urban cultural work.
Free Admission, No Registration Required
Like all municipal children's festivals in Leverkusen, LEVspielt³ is free. No registration is required, just come along. For the city, this is a clear commitment to cultural participation — especially families with low incomes, for whom amusement parks or water parks are too expensive, should have a high-quality summer experience.
In the Context of NRW Children's Festivals
Children's festivals are standard in NRW — Bonn (Beethoven's Birthday with children's program), Düsseldorf (Children's Carnival), Cologne (District Festivals), Essen (Play Center), Bochum (Bochum Children's Culture Week). Leverkusen's LEVspielt³ stands out with its three-location concept and offers a depth of content (urbanity, education, nature) that many children's festivals do not achieve.
