Large neighbourhood festival in the pedestrian zone of Filderstadt-Mitte
The Bärenfest has been a firm fixture in Filderstadt's summer calendar for years. Organized by the Bernhausen e.V. association ring—an alliance of all associations, schools, kindergartens, and organizations in the district—the festival is more than just a neighbourhood event: it's a showcase of active community life in the Fildern region. The 35th edition in 2026 marks remarkable consistency: for over three decades, the festival has made its way through Bernhausen's pedestrian zone.
During the festival days, the Bernhausen pedestrian zone—between the district centre and Bernhausen Town Hall—becomes a continuous festival mile. You can stroll among the associations' pavilions, listen to music from various stages, sample specialities from different association stalls, and meet acquaintances and neighbours. The atmosphere is convivial—typically Swabian.
On several stages along the festival mile, Bernhausen and guest music associations, school big bands, choirs, dance groups, and local bands perform. Stage programmes start daily from 3 p.m. and continue into the evening. On Saturday evening, the music traditionally plays longer, with dance music until around 11 p.m.
The Bärenfest is designed as a multi-generational event. For children, there's a bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities, a mini carousel, and the Bärenfest mascot. For teenagers, there are cocktail bars (with non-alcoholic options), live music, and interactive sports activities. For adults and seniors, there are seating areas under pavilions, culinary specialities, wine and beer, and pleasant social gatherings.
Filderstadt was created in 1975 through the merger of several Fildern villages and is now the largest city in the Esslingen district with over 47,000 inhabitants. Bernhausen, with almost 12,000 inhabitants, is the largest and most urban district—with good S-Bahn connections to Stuttgart, a modern district centre, and a vibrant network of associations.
The 35th edition of the Bärenfest falls on the last weekend of June 2026. Festival starts daily from 3 p.m., ending late in the evening. The detailed programme will be published by the Bernhausen e.V. association ring in May/June 2026 as a programme flyer on the festival website.
