Leimbach Village Festival

Over Five Decades of Village History

The Leimbach Dorffest takes place every summer in Leimbach Park — a district of the town of Querfurt in the Saalekreis — and boasts a tradition dating back to the late 1960s. 2026 marks the 57th edition — proof that the festival is deeply rooted in the village community. The festival is organised by the Traditionsverein Leimbach e.V. (Leimbach Tradition Association), which consciously cultivates the idea of a homemade, village-specific festival.

Every summer, a festival site is created in Leimbach Park — a small green area with old trees — featuring a stage, a beer tent, food stalls, and sports areas. The programme deliberately caters to the whole family: sports competitions for clubs and amateur athletes on Saturday, followed by dancing with a live band in the evening; Sunday features a morning pint (Frühshoppen) with brass music, a warm meal at lunchtime, and a colourful mix of hypnosis performances, ventriloquism, and show acts in the afternoon. A festival culture that has grown over the decades.

Querfurt and the Saalekreis

Querfurt is a small town in the Saalekreis district, dominated by the monumental Burg Querfurt, one of the largest preserved castle complexes in Germany. Leimbach is one of the districts surrounding the main town. The Saalekreis is characterised by a rich tradition of village festivals, shooting (Schützenfest), and local festivals (Heimatfesten) throughout the summer — the Leimbach Dorffest is one of the largest and longest-running of them.
