Wine festival in the municipal vineyard St. Bruno
The "St. Bruno" vineyard on the southwestern outskirts of Querfurt is a remarkable rediscovery: established in 2007 by the city of Querfurt on the site of the former monastery vineyard of the medieval noble family von Querfurt zu Mariazell, it recalls the centuries-old tradition of viticulture in the Querfurt region. Today, "St. Bruno" is a managed municipal vineyard whose grapes are processed into Saale-Unstrut wine in the region – and once a year, it becomes the venue for the Vineyard Festival.
The Querfurt Vineyard Festival has quickly established itself since its first edition in 2020: it now takes place annually on the last Saturday in August – a fixed date in the summer Saalekreis calendar. The vineyard is otherwise closed to the public; however, on the festival day, it opens its doors to day visitors who can sample Querfurt and Saale-Unstrut wines among the vines, enjoy culinary specialties, and round off the evening on the open-air dance floor.
Unlike the established wine festivals in the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region (Naumburg, Freyburg, Bad Kösen), the Querfurt festival is young and municipally supported – the city itself is the organizer, and the vineyard is its property. This very constellation gives the festival its special character: it is less touristy, more community-oriented, with local actors and a program that combines Querfurt tradition and Saale-Unstrut wine culture.
Querfurt, with its impressive castle, is one of the underestimated cultural sites in the Saalekreis district (Saxony-Anhalt). The Vineyard Festival complements the city's event program with a component that is regionally anchored and at the same time points to the state-wide known Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region.
The 7th edition of the Querfurt Vineyard Festival will again take place on the last Saturday of August – from 2026 onwards, it will be a fixed date in the city calendar. According to the city of Querfurt, the exact program will only be published in the summer of 2026; based on previous years, the following structure can be expected: Opening in the late afternoon, wine tasting in the vineyard, culinary stands with regional specialties, live music (often regional bands), and in the evening, an open-air dance floor.
The detailed 2026 program (bands, times) will be published in the summer on the official festival website, according to the city of Querfurt.
