Three days of summer music in the spa park — GospelRock, Day of Associations, and Frühschoppen with VIELKLANG Jena
Bad Klosterlausnitz is a spa town in the Saale-Holzland district, located east of Jena. The small town has a historic spa park with the Kurmittelhaus — an Art Nouveau building that is now used as an event hall. This park and the spa house form the dual stage architecture of the Lausnitzer Musiksommer. Every summer in June, the festival runs for three days, with a clearly recognizable program structure: Friday GospelRock, Saturday Association Day, Sunday Frühschoppen.
The festival opening on Friday is traditionally a GospelRock evening: a choir and a band present a program of modern gospel pieces, soulful rock adaptations, and spiritually charged pop music. This opening has a clear musical-religious accent — a peculiarity that sets the festival apart from purely secular open-air series.
Saturday is dedicated to local association life: the 'Day of Associations' brings together the sports, cultural, and social associations of Bad Klosterlausnitz in the spa park. Each association presents itself with its own stand and a short stage program. In the evening, the anniversary concert follows — in its 16th edition in 2026. This combination of an association festival and a concert evening makes the Musiksommer a festival of civic identity.
Sunday starts with the Frühschoppen in the spa park: a traditional Thuringian Sunday with a brass band, Thuringian dumplings, roast pork, and bratwurst. In 2026, the band VIELKLANG Jena will perform the Sunday afternoon concert — a live band known in the region with a wide repertoire of pop, rock, and Schlager. Classic Dixieland sounds complement the program. This is how the festival ends gently, culinarily and musically, in the summer park.
The Kur- und Gesundheitszentrum Bad Klosterlausnitz GmbH operates the town's mud bath and rehabilitation facilities. The historic spa complex with its spa house from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century is the architectural and cultural heart of the town. The Musiksommer is part of a broader event calendar that accompanies the spa town throughout the year (Walpurgisnacht, Parkleuchten, Advent market, etc.).
The 16th edition sticks to the proven three-day schedule. Friday evening starts with the GospelRock concert in the Kurmittelhaus — choir and band present a program of modern gospel songs and rocking adaptations.
Saturday is dedicated to the Day of Associations — the associations of Bad Klosterlausnitz gather in the spa park with their own stands, small stage programs, and interactive activities. The anniversary concert follows in the evening.
Sunday begins with the traditional Frühschoppen in the spa park: brass band, Thuringian dumplings, bratwurst, and roast pork. In the afternoon, the band VIELKLANG Jena performs, complemented by Dixieland sounds. This is how the Musiksommer ends in a relaxed and culinary way.
