About Lankow District Festival

The Lankow District Festival has been the largest neighbourhood festival in Schwerin's Lankow district since the late 1990s. Organized by the District Conference under the leadership of Cordula Manow, it brings together around 30 associations, kindergartens, senior facilities, and housing companies on the Kieler Straße playground every year – with a stage program, flea market, and activities for the whole family.

The 29th Lankow District Festival in Schwerin is expected to take place on the weekend of September 12th and 13th, 2026, on the Kieler Straße playground. Around 30 associations and institutions will shape the program – with a stage, flea market, games, and family activities for the entire Lankow district.

The 29th edition of the Lankow District Festival follows the established concept of the District Conference: a communal weekend for residents of all generations with a stage program, hands-on activities, a flea market, and catering. The exact date will be announced in the summer of 2026 – traditionally, the festival takes place on the second weekend of September.

Getting there

Take the NVS city bus (lines towards Lankow Siedlung) to Kieler Straße. By car via Lübecker Straße. Parking available in the vicinity.

The Lankow District Festival celebrated its 28th edition in 2025, making it one of the most traditional district festivals in Schwerin. It is organized by the volunteer District Conference Lankow and brings residents together around the Kieler Straße playground.

Program

Around 30 associations and institutions – kindergartens, senior homes, housing companies, sports clubs – present themselves with stalls, hands-on activities, and demonstrations. Dance groups, choirs, and musical contributions from the district alternate on stage. A flea market, bouncy castle, crafts, face painting, wheelchair obstacle course, cornhole, and wall shooting round off the program. Bratwurst, coffee, and cake provide refreshments.

Local Context

Lankow is a western district of Schwerin, characterized by prefabricated housing estates and a high proportion of social facilities. The district festival is considered an important anchor for neighbourhood management and community work. In 2025, Minister-President Manuela Schwesig and Building Officer Bernd Nottebaum, among others, visited the festival – a sign of the event's significance in the state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
