The Stocking Town Celebrates Itself

Oberlungwitz, located in the Zwickau district, owes its nickname Stocking Town to a tradition that began in the 19th century and continues to shape the townscape today. Knitwear and stocking factories were the economic backbone of the place; remnants of this industrial culture are visible throughout the town. The Stocking and Club Festival honors this heritage annually on a Pentecost weekend.

Sport, Music, and Club Life

The festival combines three strands:

• The Stocking Run is the main sporting attraction – a community run on Saturday morning that goes through the town. Online registration is possible.
• The Duck Race – thousands of small plastic ducks are released into a stream, the fastest win prizes. Classic German Volksfest (folk festival) flair for the whole family.
• The Club Presentations on Saturday afternoon (1 p.m. – 6 p.m.): the town shows what its clubs achieve – from the marksmen's club and the volunteer fire brigade to dance groups and sports clubs.

In addition, there is a varied stage program with local bands, an extensive program for families and children, and catering stands offering regional specialties.

West Saxony in the Middle

Oberlungwitz is located in the heart of West Saxony, between Chemnitz and Zwickau, in the historical industrial belt of the state of Saxony. Visitors to the festival can combine their stay with a visit to nearby Hohenstein-Ernstthal – home of Karl May and location of the Sachsenring race track.
