One of the largest marquee festivals on the Mosel with the crowning of the Wine Queen, a parade, and a young vintner wine tasting
Leiwen is located on the Middle Mosel between Trittenheim and Klüsserath. In the past two decades, the village has developed into one of the most innovative wine villages on the Mosel — the Loosen family, Carl Loewen, and Sankt Urbans-Hof have achieved global recognition. The younger generation is consistently working on a modern interpretation of Mosel Riesling, which is also reflected in the Weinfest's program.
The 2026 Weinfest runs from Friday, August 14th to Monday, August 17th. It opens on Friday with the tapping of the first keg, Saturday is the crowning evening, Sunday features the parade, and Monday is the undisputed highlight with the young vintner wine tasting. This four-day structure allows for a wide variety of programming and distinguishes the Leiwen format from shorter Mosel wine festivals.
The Leiwen Young Vintner Wine Tasting on Monday evening is considered one of the most famous tasting formats in Germany. The young generation of Leiwen vintners presents their personal wines, comments on them themselves, and enters into direct dialogue with the audience. The format is equally appreciated by wine professionals and connoisseurs — it is seen as a benchmark for the future of Leiwen wine and attracts trade visitors from all over Germany.
The Leiwen festival committee consciously combines tradition (parade, crowning, keg tapping) with modern program elements (DJ sets, live cover bands, pop-up wine formats). In doing so, the festival positions itself as a bridge between the older Volksfest generation and a younger wine-loving audience.
The 2026 program structure continues the proven four-day format. The Leiwen vintners work closely with the festival committee, especially in preparing the young vintner wine tasting — the undisputed highlight of the weekend.
