48 Years of City Festival in Langenfeld
The Langenfeld City Festival has been a firm institution in this Lower Rhenish medium-sized town since 1978. The 48th edition in 2026, as always, combines funfair, city strolls, club life, and live entertainment into a four-day Volksfest (popular festival) that marks the start of the open-air season in western Rhineland. Dates: Friday, April 17 to Monday, April 20, 2026.
Solinger Straße and Hauptstraße — The Festival Mile
The festival area extends across Solinger Straße and Hauptstraße, the central shopping and traffic arteries of Langenfeld's city center. Both streets will be closed to car traffic and filled with showmen, funfair stalls, and stages. Those wandering through the festival mile will find:
- Ferris wheel as a visual landmark above the city
- Dodgems, chain carousel, haunted house, children's rides
- Stages with live music of various genres
- Club mile with stands from Langenfeld's clubs – from sports clubs to carnival societies
- Food and drink stalls with Lower Rhenish and international culinary delights
- Open singing as an intergenerational program element
Sunday Shopping on April 19
A central program point is the Sunday shopping on April 19, 2026, from 1 PM to 6 PM: Langenfeld's city center shops will be open, with special promotions and spring collections running parallel to the showmen's operations. Families often use Sunday for a double-header: funfair with children in the morning, city stroll with shopping in the afternoon.
Tradition Since 1978
The Langenfeld City Festival was first held in 1978, making it one of the older city festivals in NRW. Every year in April, it traditionally marks the beginning of the warmer festival season – Langenfeld residents who want to welcome spring come to the festival mile.
Langenfeld (Rhineland) — A City Between Düsseldorf and Cologne
Langenfeld is located in the Mettmann district, between Düsseldorf (to the north) and Cologne (to the south), on the edge of the Bergisches Land region. With around 60,000 inhabitants, Langenfeld is a quiet medium-sized town with good transport links – both Düsseldorf and Cologne are reachable in 20-30 minutes. The city festival benefits from this location: day visitors from the two major cities join on Sundays.
City Management as Organizer
The City Management of the City of Langenfeld organizes the city festival with the support of clubs and retailers. The concept has been stable for years – the success lies in its family-friendly character and the combination of funfair and city stroll. The current program will be published on langenfeld.de before the festival.
