About Fasching Bad Bergzabern

The carnival campaign in Bad Bergzabern is driven by the Karnevalgesellschaft Hameckia and complemented by the traditional Hexensprung of the Hutschelhexen. The 2026 programme is spread over three dates: the Hexensprung on February 12, 2026 (7:11 PM at the Castle), the KG Hameckia's Prunksitzung on February 14, 2026, and the grand Faschingsumzug on February 24, 2026.

Bad Bergzabern is the spa town in the southernmost tip of the Palatinate, directly on the Alsatian border. The castle, historic market square, and elegant spa street form the backdrop for a carnival campaign that combines South Palatinate tradition with Alsatian influence.

KG Hameckia as the Organiser

The Karnevalgesellschaft Hameckia is the most important carnival society in Bad Bergzabern. The society's name alludes to the old Palatinate word 'Hameck' (homeland). Hameckia organises the indoor carnival events with Prunksitzungen, Närrische Mädelssitzungen, and children's sessions, as well as the highlight of the campaign, the grand Faschingsumzug.

Hexensprung of the Hutschelhexen

On Thursday, February 12, 2026, the Hutschelhexen will jump into carnival at Bad Bergzabern Castle at 7:11 PM. The Hexensprung is a relatively new, but now firmly established, opening event for the Bad Bergzabern carnival. The Hexen-Garde (Witch Guard) performs in the castle courtyard with costumed jumps and witch rituals.

Prunksitzung and Faschingsumzug

The KG Hameckia's Prunksitzung on Saturday, February 14, 2026, is the indoor event of the campaign. Büttenreden (comic speeches), dance troupes, men's ballet, and music fill the evening. The actual Faschingsumzug follows on Shrove Tuesday, February 24, 2026, parading through the centre of Bad Bergzabern. Floats from local societies, walking groups, Guggemusik bands, and dance troupes form the procession.

Bad Bergzabern and the Bergzabern Region

Bad Bergzabern is the central town of the Southern Wine Route and the administrative seat of the Bad Bergzabern municipal association. The mild climate, its location by the Bienwald forest, and its proximity to Alsace make the town a year-round tourist destination. During carnival, the KG Hameckia campaign complements the tourist offerings and attracts visitors from the entire Bergzabern region.
