Around 130 km of car-free Siegtal between Siegburg and Netphen on the first Sunday in July
Siegtal pur is one of the most famous car-free adventure events in Germany and takes place every year on the first Sunday in July from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For a length of around 130 kilometers, the Siegtal valley is closed to motorized traffic from Siegburg in North Rhine-Westphalia to Netphen in Siegerland. Rhineland-Palatinate is prominently represented with the route between Au (Sieg), Wissen, Hamm (Sieg), Etzbach, and Betzdorf.
What makes Siegtal pur unique is its cross-state dimension: the route connects North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, passing through rural floodplains and urban centers like Siegburg and Betzdorf. The event is coordinated by Naturregion Sieg e.V., involving municipalities, districts, and tourism associations from both states.
Siegtal pur is not just a sporting event, but above all a celebration. Along the route, the neighboring municipalities, clubs, and catering businesses organize around 70 events: street festivals, live music, family programs, hands-on activities, regional culinary delights, and market stalls. In the Hellertal valley, mining traditions and industrial culture are highlighted; in the nature region between Wissen and Au, the focus is on natural experiences; in Hamm (Sieg), a special emphasis has been placed on the floodplain meadows.
Special trains are used for travel by rail; the Sieg line (RB 90) stops at all important locations, allowing participants to board with their bikes or turn back halfway. Service stations offering repair assistance, drinking water, and information are available at the stations in Au, Wissen, Etzbach, Schladern, and Eitorf.
Police, DLRG (German Life Saving Association), fire departments, and THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief) are on-site with hundreds of emergency personnel to ensure the safety of the event. Emphasis is placed on a sustainable concept: reusable cups, waste avoidance, and a conscious program on topics such as nature conservation, climate change, and gentle tourism characterize the event's image.
Siegtal pur 2026 falls, as tradition dictates, on the first Sunday in July – July 5th. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the entire route is car-free. Approximately 130 kilometers between Siegburg and Netphen are available for cyclists, inline skaters, joggers, and hikers.
The local municipalities are organizing around 70 accompanying events, which will shape the weekend as a colorful chain of festivals. The railway will operate with additional services and special trains to facilitate bicycle transport and flexible route choices.
The complete program for 2026, including stage plans, additional trains, and family activities, will be published in spring 2026 on the website naturregion-sieg.de and the respective city and tourism websites. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years:
