About Hofmusiktage

The Landshuter Hofmusiktage is the oldest Early Music festival in Bavaria, founded in 1982. In the authentic spaces of the medieval Old Town – from the magnificent town hall hall to the Jesuit church and Trausnitz Castle – music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque eras is performed by renowned soloists and ensembles. With innovative formats bridging hip-hop and Early Music, participatory projects, and a court musical, the festival is among the most significant of its kind in Germany.

Early Music in a Historic Setting

The Landshuter Hofmusiktage were founded in 1982, making them the oldest Early Music festival in Bavaria. The special feature: Music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque is performed in rooms that date back to their respective eras. The magnificent town hall hall, the Jesuit church, the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche, the church of St. Margaret, the Salzstadel, and Trausnitz Castle provide a backdrop that makes the historical repertoire immediately tangible.

Prestige and Programme

For almost three decades, the festival has delighted its audience with new discoveries and presents fascinating soloists and ensembles from all over Europe. Each edition is dedicated to a thematic motto that runs through the concert programme. In addition to classical concerts, the festival increasingly focuses on innovative formats – such as the encounter between hip-hop and Early Music or poetry slams – and involves amateur musicians from the city in large participation projects.

Landshut as a Stage

The medieval Old Town of Landshut, with its famous street architecture and Trausnitz Castle, is itself part of the festival experience. The festival builds on the city's musical tradition, which is known, among other things, for the historical Landshut Wedding. It is supported by the association Landshuter Hofmusiktage e.V.
