Live music, beer garden and regional cuisine in Landshut's late-Gothic old town
Landshut is the administrative seat of the Lower Bavaria district and is considered to have one of the most beautiful city centers in Bavaria with its late-Gothic old town. The old town between the town hall and the Ländtor is one of the most monumental city axes in Southern Germany — lined with brick houses with high gables, the town hall with its famous festival hall (scene of the Landshut Wedding in 1475) and St. Martin's Church with the world's tallest brick tower.
The Altstadtfest uses this backdrop for a classic city festival with several stages. The entire Altstadtstraße is closed to traffic over the weekend and transformed into a festival mile. From Friday 6 p.m. and Saturday from 3 p.m., there will be live concerts, beer garden operation, and gastronomic stands — each until about 1 a.m.
The organizer is Messe Landshut, which compiles the program anew each year. Regional and national bands from the rock, pop, cover, and Schlager genres perform on the stages, along with acoustic acts and singer-songwriters in the quieter zones. The organizers emphasize diversity and quality — from the punchy rock band on the main square to the acoustic trio in the side alleys.
Gastronomically, the Altstadtfest is a cross-section of Landshut's tavern and restaurant scene: Bavarian specialties (pretzels, Weißwurst, roast pork), international specialties (pizza, burgers, Asian, Mediterranean), and extensive beer garden operation with Landshut beers. The city's restaurateurs benefit from the huge crowds — many establishments extend their seating onto the street.
The Altstadtfest is one of several important festivals in Landshut's summer calendar — framed by the Hofmusiktagen, Kultursommer, Bartlmädult, Kunstwochenende, and the spectacular Landshuter Hochzeit 1475 (every four years, next time in 2027). For 2026, the Altstadtfest on July 17th/18th is a central summer date for the city.
The 2026 Altstadtfest will once again take over the entire axis from the town hall to the Ländtor. Several stages with different musical profiles, gastronomic stands, and extensive beer garden operation will shape the two festival days. The detailed band lineup will be available for download shortly before the festival date on the event page landshutlive.de.
