Advent City Landshut – Christkindlmarkt on the Ringelstecherwiese
The Christkindlmarkt Landshut is part of Adventsstadt Landshut, a city-wide concept that turns the city into a cohesive festival venue during the Christmas season. The concept was awarded second place in the Bavarian City Marketing Prize (category for cities over 70,000 inhabitants) in 2022. The main market is located on the Ringelstecherwiese at the Hofgarten, complemented by the Art and Craft Market in the old town.
On the Ringelstecherwiese, visitors can expect around 50 stalls with traditional Christmas items: crafts, nativity accessories, Christmas tree decorations, household goods, and clothing. Culinary delights include gingerbread, spiced biscuits, candied almonds, bratwurst, and mulled wine. A 250 m² ice rink, a 38-meter-high Ferris wheel, a children's carousel, and a children's train make the market particularly family-friendly. In the Lebkuchenhaus (gingerbread house), a special hands-on and entertainment program for children runs from Thursday to Sunday.
From November 27 to December 23, the Altstadt – Landshut's famous street between St. Martin's Church and the Town Hall – is also transformed into a Christmas spectacle. Here, the focus is on arts and crafts: glassblowers, woodcarvers, ceramists, and artists from Lower Bavaria showcase their skills. A giant XXL Christmas bauble (5 m diameter, 22,000 LEDs) hangs at the Town Hall, four six-meter-high Advent candles flank the old town, and a projection show is displayed on the historic Town Hall.
A special feature of the Advent City is the Bockerlbahn: a nostalgic tourist train that runs between the old town, Ländtorplatz, and Ringelstecherwiese from Friday to Sunday (2:00 PM–7:00 PM, every 15 minutes). The ride is free and connects the venues for families with children or visitors with mobility issues.
Landshut – with 75,000 inhabitants, one of the largest cities in Lower Bavaria and the seat of the administrative region – uses its historic backdrop of Burg Trausnitz, Hofgarten, and the Gothic St. Martin's Church (with the world's tallest brick tower) for one of Bavaria's most atmospheric Christmas cities with its Adventsstadt.
The Adventsstadt Landshut 2026 continues the successful dual concept: around 50 stalls on the Ringelstecherwiese, plus the craft market in the old town. Highlights include the 38 m high Ferris wheel, the 250 m² ice rink, and the oversized LED bauble at the Town Hall with 22,000 lights.
As in previous years, Advent concerts in the city churches accompany the program, supplemented by baroque church music and Christmas carols in the ice stadium on December 22. In the Lebkuchenhaus on the Ringelstecherwiese, hands-on programs for children run from Thursday to Sunday. St. Nicholas visits the market on December 6.
Grand Christmas caroling event on December 22 in the Landshut Ice Stadium.
