Volksfest by the Historic Castle Pond
Jägersburg is a district of Homburg in the Saarpfalz-Kreis and is home to one of the most scenic spots in eastern Saarland: the Schlossweiher (castle pond) surrounding the remnants of the baroque castle complex. In summer, this park becomes the stage for the Jägersburger Strandfest, a traditional Volksfest (folk festival) with an open-air character. The combination of water, old trees, and the festival meadow is what makes it so appealing.
Four Days of Programming
The Strandfest runs for four days every year, from Friday to Monday, starting at 6:00 PM and ending at midnight. The focus is on open-air concerts featuring regional and cover bands. In addition, showmen bring their amusement rides, a dedicated children's program attracts families to the pond during the day, and food stalls offer Saarland's traditional festival fare.
Highlight: The Monday Evening Fireworks
On the fourth and final day of the festival, Monday evening, a grand fireworks display over the Schlossweiher (castle pond) crowns the event. The reflection of the fireworks on the water makes the spectacle one of the most beautiful summer fireworks in the Saarpfalz-Kreis. Thousands of visitors spread out around the pond.
Organizer: Homburger Kulturgesellschaft
The organizer is the Homburger Kulturgesellschaft gGmbH, which manages the entire cultural program of the Saarpfalz capital on behalf of the city of Homburg. They consolidate events ranging from the summer festival to the Christmas market. Admission to the Strandfest is free – financing comes from stall fees, gastronomy, and municipal funds.
Saar-Pfalz Nature Park
Jägersburg is located in the Saar-Pfalz Nature Park, one of the greenest regions of Saarland. Those spending a few days in the Saarpfalz-Kreis can combine the Strandfest with hikes through the Bliesgau, a visit to the castle gardens, or a tour to nearby France.
