Traditional market for goods and animals on Whit Monday in the Swabian Jura
The Pfingstmarkt in Laichingen is one of the oldest market traditions in the Swabian Jura. Every Whit Monday, the town centre transforms into a market for goods and animals, attracting visitors from far beyond the Alb-Donau district. Over 200 stallholders bring their wares to the town — from plants and flowers to clothing, jewellery, and household goods. This makes the Laichinger Pfingstmarkt one of the three major annual markets in the town, alongside the spring and autumn markets.
The early morning is traditionally opened by the animal market: small animals, poultry, rabbits, and pigeons are traded — a direct link to Laichingen's old cattle market tradition as a central market day for Alb farmers. Today, the animal market has a smaller, more folkloric character, but it is firmly linked to the Pfingstmarkt and begins well before general market operations.
The main market starts at 8 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m. The market offerings include textiles, leather goods, kitchen appliances, tools, souvenirs, sweets, and specialities from Swabia. At the food stalls, you'll find bratwurst, Käsespätzle, roasted almonds, crêpes, and waffles. A special attraction for families: a children's carousel, a miniature railway, and shooting galleries — small, classic Volksfest elements.
Laichingen is located on the plateau of the Swabian Jura, about halfway between Stuttgart and Ulm in the Alb-Donau district. With around 11,500 inhabitants, the Alb town is the economic centre of its region — known for its textile factories and its long market tradition. The Pfingstmarkt, along with the spring and autumn markets, is one of the highlights in Laichingen's event calendar.
On Whit Monday, May 25, 2026, the town of Laichingen invites you to the traditional Pfingstmarkt in the town centre. Over 200 stallholders bring a wide range of goods — from fresh vegetables, flowers, and plants to textiles and leather goods, as well as household items, tools, toys, sweets, and souvenirs.
The animal market opens its doors early in the morning, giving the Pfingstmarkt its special character and recalling Laichingen's old cattle market tradition. For families, children's carousels, a miniature railway, and several food stalls are set up on the festival grounds.
