Grand Carnival Tuesday Parade on the outskirts of Baden-Baden — with Schatulla burning in the evening
While Baden-Baden is internationally known for its casino culture, its Festspielhaus, and its sophisticated atmosphere, a down-to-earth, club-strong Fastnacht tradition thrives in the Oos district. The organizer is the Ooser Carneval-Verein 1932 e.V. (OCV), which has shaped Oos Fastnacht for over nine decades. The highlight of the season: the Fastnachtsumzug on Carnival Tuesday, which in 2026 takes place on February 17.
The parade starts on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 2:30 PM in the center of Oos. Road closures will be in effect from 1 PM — the streets involved will be closed to car traffic. Recommendation: do not arrive by car. The parade proceeds through the center of Oos, past the Ooser Festhalle, and through the residential areas of the district. Hundreds of costumed figures, Guggenmusik bands, 'Gardens' (dance troupes), decorated floats, and walking groups from the Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht region (Mittelbaden, Schwarzwald, Murgtal, Hochrhein) parade through Oos.
After the parade, a special Oos tradition follows: the Schatulla-Verbrennung behind the Ooser Festhalle. The 'Schatulla' is a symbolic figure whose burning marks the official end of the Fastnacht season — comparable to the bonfires ('Funken') or witch burnings in other Swabian-Alemannic carnival strongholds. The burning ritualizes the transition from Fastnacht to Lent.
Those familiar with the Carnival of Cologne or Düsseldorf will experience a different tradition in Oos: the Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht is older, its masks and costumes are more elaborately handcrafted (wooden masks instead of cheap plastic versions), and the atmosphere is less carnival-like and cheerful, but more ritualistic and deeply rooted in tradition. 'Gardens', Guggenmusik bands, and 'Hexenzünfte' (witch guilds) from the region perform in the Oos parade.
The Ooser Carneval-Verein 1932 e.V. was founded in 1932 and has maintained unbroken club life since then — with the exception of forced interruptions during the war years. The OCV is responsible for the entire Oos Fastnacht season: from the opening evening in November, through indoor events, to the parade on Carnival Tuesday and the Schatulla-Verbrennung. In 2026, it will celebrate its 94th anniversary.
Oos is located in the western part of Baden-Baden, on the edge of the Rhine plain, with its own train station (Baden-Baden Oos — the city's main ICE connection) and its own club structure. In contrast to the spa town center of Baden-Baden, Oos has a more village-like character — ideal for a tradition-steeped Fastnacht celebration.
On February 17, 2026, the Fastnachtsumzug Baden-Baden Oos will parade through the district starting at 2:30 PM sharp. Road closures will be in effect from 1 PM. The parade brings 'Gardens', Guggenmusik bands, 'Hexenzünfte' (witch guilds), decorated floats, and walking groups from the Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht region to the center of Oos.
After the parade, the traditional Schatulla-Verbrennung will take place behind the Ooser Festhalle — the ritual end of the Fastnacht season. The organizer is the Ooser Carneval-Verein 1932 e.V. (OCV), which has preserved the tradition for over 90 years.

By train is particularly recommended: the ICE train station Baden-Baden Oos is located directly in the district. By car: A 5 (Baden-Baden exit), but note the road closures from 1 PM and allow ample buffer time. Park-and-Ride via Baden-Baden's central parking garages.
