Bavaria-Swabia's largest folk festival on the Plärrer grounds in Augsburg
The Augsburger Plärrer has been held since the 18th century on the Kleiner Exerzierplatz west of Augsburg's city center and is the largest folk festival (Volksfest) in Bavaria-Swabia. The festival has two editions per year: the Frühjahrsplärrer (from Easter) and the Herbstplärrer (end of August – mid-September). In total, around 1.2 million visitors come to the Plärrer grounds; the autumn edition alone regularly attracts over half a million guests.
Around 85 showmen and restaurateurs set up on the grounds each year. The focus is on the large beer tents of the Binswanger and Schaller breweries with live music, classic folk festival gastronomy (Hendl, Schweinshaxe, Schmankerl, Riesenbrezen) and atmosphere from seating areas to the dance floor. Hightech rides, classic nostalgic attractions, children's rides, shooting galleries, lottery stalls, and the entire spectrum of Southern German folk festival culture are spread across the grounds.
The 2026 autumn edition runs from August 28 to September 13, 2026, on the Kleiner Exerzierplatz (86153 Augsburg). The organizer is SSV Schausteller GmbH in cooperation with the Augsburg City Market Office. Opening hours: Monday to Thursday 12 PM–11 PM, Friday 12 PM–11:30 PM, Saturday 10:30 AM–11:30 PM, Sundays and public holidays 10:30 AM–11 PM.
Augsburg is Bavaria's third-largest city and the capital of the Swabia administrative region. The Plärrer grounds are centrally located west of the main train station at the end of Pferseer Straße and are excellently connected to the city center by public transport (trams). The Plärrer has a firmly established role in Augsburg's annual event calendar, comparable to Munich's Oktoberfest in its regional significance – albeit on a much smaller scale.
The 2026 Herbstplärrer starts on August 28 and lasts for two weeks until September 13. Around 85 showmen will be spread across the Plärrer grounds, along with the two festival tents from the Binswanger and Schaller breweries, which will feature live music daily as usual.
Over half a million visitors are expected over the 17 festival days. Opening hours vary slightly depending on the day of the week (Mon–Thu 12 PM–11 PM, Fri until 11:30 PM, Sat from 10:30 AM until 11:30 PM, Sun/Public Holidays 10:30 AM–11 PM).
The complete daily and stage program will be published in early August 2026 on augsburger-plaerrer.de. The following recurring program elements are known:

Admission to the Plärrer grounds is free. Rides and consumption in the festival tents are paid for individually on-site; prices vary by showman/restaurant. As usual, Family Day and Seniors' Afternoon offer special prices on rides. Table reservations in the festival tents can be made directly with Binswanger and Schaller.
By tram: Line 4, stop "Plärrer" (directly at the grounds) or Line 1, stop "Kongress am Park". By car: A8 exit Augsburg-West, then follow signs for Innenstadt; during the Plärrer, Park & Ride is recommended as parking spaces around the grounds fill up quickly.
Monday – Thursday 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM, Friday 12:00 PM – 11:30 PM, Saturday 10:30 AM – 11:30 PM, Sunday and public holidays 10:30 AM – 11:00 PM.
Free admission. Table reservations in the festival tents are advisable: Binswanger tent and Schaller tent accept reservations directly; details at augsburger-plaerrer.de.
