Open Studios at Pentecost
The KUNST:OFFEN Vorpommern initiative is one of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's largest participatory art events. Over the Pentecost weekend, more than a hundred artists and craftspeople from across the state open their studios and workshops to visitors free of charge. Participation is particularly vibrant in Lubmin and neighboring Hanshagen: The Lubmin artists' round table showcases paintings, ceramics, encaustic works, fishing rugs, and patchwork; the Hanshagen watermill complements the program with historical mill charm and art exhibitions.
Unlike traditional galleries, the studios are genuine workspaces on this weekend, where artists are present, demonstrate their techniques, and sell original works. Encaustic (wax painting), watercolor, acrylic, ceramics, wood, and textile works – the spectrum reflects the creative diversity of the Vorpommern art scene. Those traveling through the region can visit different locations over several days, moving from studio to studio.
Lubmin belongs to the Lubmin office in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, and Hanshagen is a neighboring community within the same office. The KUNST:OFFEN tradition has been nurtured in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern since the 1990s and has become an important platform for the state's independent art scene. Pentecost is the weekend across the state when Vorpommern opens its artists' doors.
The KUNST:OFFEN 2026 edition runs over the four Pentecost holidays from May 23rd to 26th. In the Lubmin seaside center, the artists' round table presents its range of paintings, ceramics, encaustic wax painting, traditional fishing rugs, and patchwork works. In parallel, the historic Hanshagen watermill opens its premises for art exhibitions and mill tours. The artists are personally present during opening hours and explain their techniques. Sales directly from the studio are possible. Free admission to all locations.
