Summer culture in the open air

The Kultursommer Waldmünchen is a summer open-air concert series in the town of Waldmünchen in Bavaria, in the Cham district in the Upper Palatinate Forest near the Czech border. The venue is the central market square, which becomes a stage on many Wednesday evenings from May to August.

Diverse program

The program of the Kultursommer is deliberately broad: Bavarian folk music, classical, rock, jazz, cabaret, readings, and folklore alternate from week to week. This way, everyone finds an evening to their taste, and the market square becomes a lively meeting place for young and old.

Regional ensembles

The series is supported by the Kulturkreis Waldmünchen. Primarily local and regional groups from the Waldmünchen area perform – including choirs, brass bands, and ensembles. The traditional opening is presented by the Perlhütter Musikanten, a brass band from the Cham district that has existed since 1957 and plays in original Bavarian formation.

Free admission, convivial atmosphere

A key feature of the Kultursommer is the free admission. The event series is intended as a low-threshold offer that makes culture accessible to everyone and strengthens the community life of the town. The Wednesday evening atmosphere in the market square is relaxed and inviting.

For Waldmünchen and the Cham district, the Kultursommer is an integral part of the summer event calendar. It complements the rich cultural offerings of the border town – which is also known for its historical festival play 'Trenck der Pandur' – with a charming concert series supported by volunteer work.
