The Alternative Neighbourhood Festival

The KuFü-Fest (Kurfürstenplatz-Fest) is a deliberately non-commercial, participatory neighbourhood festival in Frankfurt's Bockenheim district. In 2026, the 7th edition will take place on Saturday, May 30, from 10 AM to 10 PM on Kurfürstenplatz. The event is organized by the association beINbo (Begegnen in Bockenheim e.V.).

Meeting Place Instead of Consumer Festival

In contrast to many large neighbourhood festivals, the KuFü-Fest deliberately focuses on a solidarity concept: free admission, food and drinks are sold at minimal prices – the festival aims to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their wallet. The organizers describe it as a «meeting place for people from diverse social, cultural, and age backgrounds».

Seven Programme Modules

The festival consists of seven modules that run in parallel:

  • Information stands by local initiatives, associations, and political groups
  • Live music and acoustic concerts on the main stage
  • Theatre and political stage performances alternating with music
  • Children's and sports activities for families from the neighbourhood
  • Workshops for adults
  • Participatory art installations to join in
  • Flea market

Bockenheim – Frankfurt's Alternative Quarter

The Frankfurt district of Bockenheim, with Kurfürstenplatz as its central square, was the university district for decades, centred around the Bockenheim Campus. With the university's move to Westend, the quarter has redefined itself – it remains a vibrant district with students, young families, and alternative structures.

beINbo – The Association Behind the Festival

beINbo (Begegnen in Bockenheim e.V.) is a neighbourhood association that organizes meeting and event formats in Bockenheim. The KuFü-Fest is its most important annual event. After a break, the event was resumed in 2026.

Bockenheim as a Festival Venue

Bockenheim is one of Frankfurt's oldest districts (incorporated in 1895) and was the university quarter for decades. With the relocation of Goethe University to the Westend Campus, the district has redefined itself – students, young families, and alternative initiatives shape the quarter today. The KuFü-Fest is an expression of this distinct Bockenheim identity.

After a break, the KuFü-Fest is back in 2026. The beINbo association is organizing a neighbourhood festival with a solidarity concept, deliberately foregoing commercialism and focusing on community interaction.
