World's Largest Book and Media Fair — Guest of Honour 2026: Czechia
Since 1949, the Frankfurt Book Fair has been the central platform for the international publishing world — and the most important reading and industry event in Germany. 238,000 visitors, approx. 4,350 exhibitors, around 3,500 individual events, and 7,800 media representatives are spread across the halls of Messe Frankfurt over five days. The 77th edition runs from October 7 to 11, 2026.
Each year, a different country focuses on its literature and book production — in 2026, it's Czechia (official designation: "Czechia"). A central Guest of Honour Pavilion with curated architecture, several hundred Czech publishers and authors, and an accompanying city program in Frankfurt are expected. Following the Czech year, Chile will be the Guest of Honour in 2027 and Romania in 2028.
For 2026, the fair has announced a new hall concept. It aims to reflect current market developments (digital content, audiobooks, streaming, AI-powered publishing), involve young readers more actively, and improve networking between the industry and the public. Details will be published by summer 2026.
The first days are traditionally Trade Visitor Days with licensing, rights trading, and networking. From Friday, October 9, 2026, the fair opens to the general public: readings, author appearances, cosplay areas (Frankfurt is also traditionally a stronghold for manga and comics), a comic festival, and audio and audiobook stages. On Sunday, October 11, the fair closes at 5:30 PM.
Frankfurt in October is a festival city: alongside the Book Fair, the Frankfurt Book Fair Peace Prize ceremony (Paulskirche), the entire city reading festival with events in libraries, cafés, and theaters, and on October 25, the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon take place. Those planning an extended stay can combine the Book Fair weekend with the marathon for a Frankfurt October.
The Book Fair follows its classic structure: Wednesday and Thursday are Trade Visitor Days, and the fair opens completely from Friday onwards. Program stages, cosplay and manga areas, audiobook and audio stages, Peace Prize ceremony in the Paulskirche on Sunday.
Detailed program with events from all stages will be published on buchmesse.de from summer 2026.
