Summer open-air concert series in Dreslers Park — from June to August
The town of Kreuztal, with around 30,000 inhabitants in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, North Rhine-Westphalia, is located north of Siegen at the transition to the Sauerland and Rothaargebirge regions. A classic medium-sized center in Siegerland, with a tradition of industry, trade, and higher education. Dreslers Park is the central city park with a large lawn, bandstand, and playgrounds — home to the Kreuztalsommer and many other local events.
The Kreuztalsommer is an open-air concert and event series organized by the Cultural Office of the City of Kreuztal. From early summer to late summer, the program features individual highlights and regular Sunday matinees — a mix of classical music, pop, regional artists, and tribute shows. Many of the events are free & outdoors (freely accessible, no admission fee), while targeted highlight events with major acts require tickets.
From the end of July to the end of August, the Sunday Matinee series runs weekly at 4:00 PM in Dreslers Park. The stage features changing acts: New Orleans Shakers (Dixieland and New Orleans Jazz), Lucy van Kuhl (Chanson and Pop), the Bill Withers tribute program Still With Us, and other regional bands. The matinees are family-friendly — many visitors bring blankets, wine, and a picnic lunch.
A special program highlight in 2026 is the KREUZTALKLASSIK evening on July 11 with the Philharmonie Südwestfalen. The program “Merci Udo Jürgens" combines the symphony orchestra with the iconic songs of the Austrian singer — a format that makes the regional symphony accessible. Admission is free — a deliberate cultural policy decision by the Kreuztal Cultural Office to offer high culture at an accessible level.
The Kreuztal Cultural Office curates a year-round program of concerts and theater, from the city library and the cultural center to open-air events. The Kreuztalsommer is its most ambitious program — and at the same time the most accessible. Visitors experience a well-curated, small-town cultural summer program in Siegerland — far from the major festival circuits.
