Two Events, One Festival Tent

Schmiechen is a small municipality in the Aichach-Friedberg district in Swabia. In 2026, the local Musikverein Schmiechen e.V. will host two interconnected events: the traditional Vatertagsfest (Father's Day Festival) and the Kreismusikfest (District Music Festival) of the Blasmusikkreisverband Ulm-Alb Donau (Ulm-Alb Donau Brass Music District Association), which rotates every few years. The two formats merge over five days into a dense brass music marathon.

Father's Day Festival on Ascension Day

The Vatertagsfest is the annual main event of the Musikverein Schmiechen and traditionally falls on Ascension Day. In 2026, it will take place on Thursday, May 14th: a morning pint with the InnkreisBuam, beer tapping around noon, an afternoon concert, and a cozy festival tent atmosphere until late at night.

Schürzenjäger on Saturday

The clear concert highlight: on Saturday, May 16th, the Austrian Tyrolean folk-rock heroes Schürzenjäger will perform. A supporting act with a regional warm-up band, followed by the main performance by Schürzenjäger with their classics "Sierra Madre", "Wahnsinn", and "Bilder eines Sommers". One of the biggest Schürzenjäger concerts in Swabia during the 2026 festival summer.

Kreismusikfest with Competition and Parade

The festive highlight will be on Sunday, May 17th: the brass band competition of the Blasmusikkreisverband Ulm-Alb Donau starting at 10:30 AM — a concert format taking place simultaneously at several judging stations, where the music associations perform before a panel of experts and collect points for their performances. At 1:30 PM, a mass choir of several bands, followed by a grand parade through Schmiechen with all participating associations. At 5:00 PM, the results of the competition will be announced.

Blasmusikkreisverband Ulm-Alb Donau

The Blasmusikkreisverband Ulm-Alb Donau organizes its district music festival on a rotating basis over several years — various member associations apply to be the host. Musikverein Schmiechen will take on the role of host in 2026 — a logistical challenge for an association in a village of 1,300 inhabitants, but also an honorary position in the Swabian brass music scene.
